Artist's Description

Archery targets have appeared as heraldic symbols in Asian and European cultures for over eight centuries. Targets also figure in military insignia and flags, as well as in corporate logos, games, and decoration.

The collages in this gallery were inspired by the work of an excellent collage artist named Laura Tringali Holmes. In 2013, she started collaborating with hundreds of collage artists around the world, in what she called "The Target Practice Project." Laura sent vintage 1960's Sears Roebuck paper archery targets to all of the artists, as well as using them in her own artwork.

I'm honored to have been included in the Target Practice Project, which has given rise to fascinating collage work on a variety of themes by many different artists. Sincere thanks to Ms. Holmes for so warmly and generously inviting me to explore targets in art!
