Parcheesi is an ancient game from India. The original name of the game is Pachisi, which comes from the Hindu word "pachis" ("twenty-five," the highest score that could be thrown in one toss of the cowrie-shell dice used with the game). Parcheesi has been popular in the United States and Canada since the nineteenth century, as attested by the large number of beautiful, handmade parcheesi boards made by anonymous North American folk artists. Several sites on the Internet give the complete rules of the game.
