In dreams begins responsibility.--W.B. Yeats (1865-1939) Irish poet
Where do dreams come from? Are they divine gifts? If they are, do they place the dreamer under an obligation to make use of them?
Dreamsthose supremely intangible collages of time, place, and actionmay have inspired the first material collage. Dreamers have long sought to retain and reflect upon their dreams, and have used them as points of departure for creation. Images or written accounts of dreams preserve them from the changes wrought by memory. Perhaps this is the responsibility spoken of by the poet: having once saved a dream from oblivion, one remains forever responsible for its existence.
