Thanks for your kind comment, Rigo. You are absolutely correct: Max Ernst, along with René Magritte & Joseph Cornell, was one of my first artistic influences; in fact, these three great men inspired me to become an artist when I first saw their work (aged 6 to 9 years). I've been doing collages with images taken from 19th-century wood engravings for about 25 years. During that time, I've been blessed by the friendship & mentoring of Jim Harter, one of the great collagists & wood-engraving archivists of our time. It is his shoulders, & those of Max Ernst & Wilfred Sätty, upon which I have been carried in my artistic endeavors, & what you have so generously called my marvelous ways. (I remember hearing that it was Isaac Newton who said: "If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants." It is certainly the case that if I have seen further, it is also for this very reason.)
