Confession is good for the soul, runs a Scottish proverb. But is it truly good for the soul? Would it not be best if made freely? And what confession was ever made freely? If not being pressed by outward force to confess, one is often urged to it from within. Given the unity of one's being, perhaps confession benefits the body at least as much as it does the soul.
